A pair of close contests this week both went against Prior Lake teams. Here is a brief update on how the Lakers performed this week on the ice and on the mat.
Girls hockey
The Lakers drew even late in the third period Thursday, Jan. 9, against Lakeville South, but it was the Cougars skating away with a 2-1 victory in overtime at Dakotah! Ice Center.
A Maddie Kidwell shorthanded goal gave Lakeville South the lead in the first period, but Allison Cammerrer scored the equalizer in the third, assisted by Addison Heinicke. Emma Swenson tallied the game-winner for the Cougars in OT.
Goalie Sophie Cappiello made 27 saves for Prior Lake in the contest.
The Lakers next face Eagan on Saturday afternoon as the team builds up to the Hockey Day Minnesota outdoor showcase later this month.
“We have a few outdoor practices scheduled throughout the season to help our athletes adapt to playing outside and a group that continues to show up everyday to work and get better as a cohesive unit,” Lakers coach Kiersten Nelson said. “We are truly working as a team through the season. We have girls with more points than others, but our entire lineup is contributing.”
Prep wrestling
Prior Lake narrowly lost a duel against visiting Apple Valley on Alumni Night, falling 33-31 on Thursday.
