Both varsity basketball teams in Prior Lake are off to a blistering start to the season, and both teams kept pushing on the gas Friday night against their rivals to the east.
The boys team (11-2) played host to Burnsville on Jan. 10, building on a narrow halftime lead for a solid 75-61 victory. Senior Norbu Jenpa, the leading scorer for the Lakers on the season, led the team with 18 points. Junior Colten Gunderson added 14 points, while sophomore Kobby Sam-Brew also reached double figures with 10 points. They have another home contest on Monday against Apple Valley.
Not to be outshined, the girls jumped out to an early lead en route to a resounding 76-30 win over the Blaze in Burnsville. Prior Lake was led by seniors Brooklynn Holmberg (21 points) and Haven Fisher (15 points), but 11 players found the scoring column for the Lakers. Next on the schedule for Prior Lake is Rochester Century on Tuesday night.
