Robb Jeffries is no stranger to Prior Lake. He was the editor of the Prior Lake American and other newspapers published by Southwest News Media several years ago and will fill the same role with Prior Lake News Compass.
“I was pleased to have the opportunity to cover the Prior Lake community with the American, and I couldn’t be happier to return,” Jeffries said. “I believe the news is meant to provide the public with all the facts necessary to make informed decisions at the ballot box and in their daily lives. It is my goal to steer the News Compass’ editorial direction to those ends.”
A graduate of the University of North Dakota, his journalism career spans 13 years, most of which was spent with Forum Communications headquartered in Fargo, where he had various reporting and editing roles. Coverage areas included government, sports and breaking news. His work has also been published by the St. Paul Pioneer Press, New York Times, Washington Post and Los Angeles Times.
“Nonprofit journalism is the future of community journalism, and I am pleased to lend my expertise to the Prior Lake News Compass,” Jeffries said. “However, I can’t do it alone. The News Compass is volunteer-driven — quite literally by the people, for the people. I encourage our readers to reach out to us with story ideas. We’re also looking for local residents to help us with writing and photography. No experience is necessary, just a desire to contribute to your community.”
