After nearly five years of planning and negotiation, a new subdivision cleared a key hurdle Tuesday night, Jan. 14.
The Residences at Crest Woods, a 68-lot development near the intersection of County Road 42 and Crest Avenue Southeast, began as a proposed medium-density residential development in 2020. After myriad changes to the proposal, the Prior Lake City Council gave unanimous approval to a low-density rendition of the subdivision.
Mayor Kirt Briggs lauded the work done by city staff, the planning commission and the developer to address current neighborhood concerns expressed at public hearings, such as street access and lot sizes. Final plat approval for the development is pending confirmation of certain revisions to the proposal by the developer, Prior Lake Development, LLC.
In addition to the residences themselves, the development will connect two ends of 138th Street Northeast and includes several outdoor trail developments.
Mayor, councilors sworn in

Tuesday was also the beginning of new terms for three members of the city council. Briggs, along with council members Zach Braid and Ethan Hellier, were sworn in at the meeting. Briggs and Braid are beginning their third terms in their roles, while newcomer Hellier fills the seat previously held by Kevin Burkhart, who ran against Briggs in the mayoral race last November.
