Local woman wins stereo: Mrs. Bernie Boegeman of Prior Lake received notice last week from Fairway Foods that she was the winner of a stereo record player in the corporation’s grand opening drawing. Mrs. Boegeman’s name was entered from Hennen’s Fairway.
Sewage dumping, litter problem on Spring Lake: Traffic and lake use violators were high on the complaint list at the Spring Lake Improvement Association meeting held on Saturday night at the high school. The association was encouraged to investigate and urge residents of the Spring Lake area to report violators who are willfully dumping sewage into the lake and also boaters who are littering the lake with cans and other items that float to shore. It is noted Minnesota has some of the worst lake litter violators.

From the weekly police report: A Pleasant Street resident reported that a local juvenile tried to light her dog house on fire. The driver of a police squad car reported that it had been egged while driving on Highway 13. An 11-year-old boy was arrested for shoplifting a can of Mountain Dew from PDQ.
Pastor moves on: Bruce Christie announced his resignation as pastor of Holy Trinity Methodist Church. He accepted a new position as pastor of First United Methodist Church in So. St. Paul.
Track opens in Shakopee with much fanfare: Canterbury Downs, Minnesota’s first parimutuel horse racing track, was scheduled to open that week. Many activities and coverage by Twin Cities television stations were planned. The Shakopee Post Office was even authorized to use a pictorial stamp cancellation for the week commemorating the event.

New school policies approved: The Prior Lake-Savage Area School Board approved four new policies regarding the search of student lockers or possessions, bullying prohibition, crisis management and employees’ right to know about exposure to hazardous substances.
Two-time winner: Megan Brandeland became the first two-time individual state champion in Prior Lake High School’s history after winning the triple jump title in consecutive years.
Wearing the crown: Prior Lake area resident Karen Stordahl was crowned Miss Minnesota at the state pageant held at the Fitzgerald Theater. She was scheduled to compete in the Miss America pageant being held in New Jersey.
