The Prior Lake WindJammers performed Friday, July 25 at Lakefront Park Bandshell as part of Prior Lake’s “Music in the Park” series. Around 200 people brought their chairs and blankets and enjoyed the hour-long concert along with food from several food trucks.
The program included a variety of music, including traditional concert band tunes and popular movie medleys. Near the end of the concert, Lynnda Nelson, the program’s announcer, provided vocals for a rendition of “September” by Earth, Wind, and Fire, and a Hamilton medley. The evening ended with the crowd clapping along to “Stars and Stripes Forever,” followed by a standing ovation.
The WindJammers includes members who graduated from Prior Lake High School as recently as 2025 all the way back to the 1960s. Anyone can be part of the group’s ensemble, but Director Keith Koehlmoos said most members played their instrument through high school and into college. The band rehearses and performs during the summer and winter, and for their winter session they will rehearse in November and perform multiple Christmas concerts. Anyone interested in joining the ensemble can send a message to their Facebook page or email director Keith Koehlmoos at kkoehlmoos@plsas.org.
Though the group’s summer concerts have concluded, the WindJammers will be performing again in December. Prior Lake’s “Music in the Park” series also has one more event on Friday, Aug. 29 with “The Castaways” performing from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lakefront Park.
