Prior Lake City Councilmember Kevin Burkart will be leaving his elected post at the end of the month.
The two-term city councilmember was cited for accepting leadership positions on behalf of Prior Lake on a variety of organizations that focus on transportation issues, including the Minnesota Valley Transit Association, Highway 169 Corridor Coalition and the Scott County Unified Transit Management Task Force.
During the Dec. 10 council meeting, Burkart was recognized for his positive influence on many projects, including the joint water treatment plant with the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, reconstruction of County Road 21 through the downtown area, and numerous street and utility replacement initiatives. City Manager Jason Wedel said the orderly annexation agreement with Spring Lake Township that gave the city control over how 1,900 acres is developed in the future would not have been possible without the councilmember’s involvement. Burkart was also praised for the changes he recommended in the area of city finances and increased investment in public safety.
Burkart has been a lifelong resident of Prior Lake and was a mayoral contender in the November election.
