The Scott County Sheriff’s Office has openings for its annual Sheriff’s Community Academy, an interactive, seven-week series meant to give participants a working knowledge of the Scott County Sheriff’s Office.
Academy objectives include enhancing law enforcement-community relationships, encouraging Scott County community members to partner with law enforcement, and to provide community members with a greater understanding of law enforcement functions. Instruction typically combines in-class lectures with hands-on activities, including live training simulations.
Classes are held at the Law Enforcement Center in downtown Shakopee on Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Each week will focus on a different area of law enforcement, including patrol, K-9, emergency management, jail and court security, and court processing.
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and live, work, or attend school in Scott County. Participants must agree to allow a criminal background check to be run to ensure the safety and security of all participants. Classes will be held between Feb. 4 and March 18. Applications must be received by January 17.
