Both Prior Lake varsity basketball teams took to the court in section 2AAAA postseason play, and one team’s dream of making the state tournament field remains alive.
The No. 2-seeded Prior Lake boys team hosted No. 7 Chanhassen on Wed., March 5 in the quarterfinals and cruised to a 99-53 win. These two teams played on Dec. 11 at Prior Lake and the Lakers won that game, 86-66. Wednesday’s game was not much different as the Lakers got off to a fast start and never looked back, leading the whole game.
PL took a 52-30 lead into the half through tough defense and hitting open shots. That continued into the second half as they were able to empty the bench to finish off the game. Top scorers for the Lakers were Norbu Jenpa with 24 points, Colten Gunderson with 19 and Kobby Sam-Brew with 11.
The Lakers (21-6) will now play No. 3 seed Minnetonka in the semifinals on Saturday, March 8 at noon at PLHS.
The girls team, after drubbing Shakopee in the opening round of their section tournament, lost in heartbreaking fashion to Minnetonka 65-64 on March 1 in the semifinals.

The Lakers fell in a hole early and trailed by seven points at the half, but the comeback bid fell just short. Brooklyn Holmberg led a balanced offensive attack with 17 points, while Toni Fisher and Bree Bowman chipped in 15 points apiece.
Prior Lake finished the season with a record of 21-6, including a memorable run of 11 wins in a row from January to mid-February.
