The City of Prior Lake has launched a new website to provide residents with information and updates on the city’s plans to improve its parks, trails, recreational facilities and equipment for the next 20-plus years.
Most of the city’s parks require significant repairs and upgrades, according to city staff. Playgrounds, shelters, trails and hockey rinks will require major renovation or replacement in order to serve residents safely and effectively in the future.
City staff members have been gathering community feedback on the needs of the parks and trails through public meetings, local events and an interactive map since 2018.
Based on the work and studies conducted, the city has developed a $60 million investment plan that reflects the community’s priorities and would deliver critical updates and improvements to Lakefront Park, Spring Lake Park, neighborhood parks and Highway 13 trails.
Major improvements proposed include:
- Additional pickleball courts, and soccer and football fields at Spring Lake Park;
- A splashpad, pickleball courts and increased access to Watzl’s Beach and the addition of a fishing pier;
- Trail segments along Highway 13 will be connected between County Road 42 and the downtown Prior Lake area.
Residents may provide feedback and/or ask additional questions through a form included on the website.
