A pair of conference wins has the Lakers in the driver’s seat of the South Suburban Conference early in the season.

After besting Burnsville to open the season, Prior Lake kept the good vibes going, dropping only one match between a home win over Apple Valley on April 10 and a road victory at Farmington on Tuesday.
The doubles teams of Lucas Aidas and Dallas Handevidt; Andy Klema and August Adams; and Adam Greengrass and Reid Breimhorst showed excellent team play against Apple Valley en route to a 6-1 win. Tarun Gopi, Jack Williams and Sam Williams earned the singles wins for the Lakers.
Matt Shplisher dropped the only match to go Apple Valley’s way, but his emphatic 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles against Farmington was part of Prior Lake’s clean sweep. Jack Williams, Sam Williams and Jack Evanson also won in straight sets for Prior Lake.
Farmington’s biggest resistance came in the top doubles match. Riley Watson and Noah Batterman pushed PL’s No. 1 pairing of Aidas and Handevidt to a third set, but ultimately the Prior Lake pair earned the 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 victory. Adams and Klema won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2, while
Breimhorst and Jackson Klein took the No. 3 match 6-0, 6-1.
The tennis team returns to the court Thursday, hosting Eastview at 4 p.m.

A thrilling extra-innings win over Shakopee has been the highlight of the Lakers’ 2-2 start to the season.
After dropping its first game at Eagan, Prior Lake knocked home the game’s only run in the bottom of the ninth inning for a 1-0 win at Memorial Park on April 9. PL followed it up with a 15-0 drubbing of Apple Valley.
A rematch with Eagan was postponed last Friday, and the Lakers fell to Lakeville North 9-5 on Monday.
Prior Lake has matchups at Eastview and Burnsville later this week.
