Six file for school board: Francis O’Keefe, Robert Peterson, Wallace Langhorst and Harold Koener filed for three-year terms on the Prior Lake School Board while Thomas Battis and Norman Busse filed for a one-year term. Elections will be held Tuesday, May 18.
Registration open for gun safety clinic: Registration for the Gun Safety Training Clinic opened this week. The fee will be $2 which goes to the state and county. Jim Cikanik will be the instructor with assistants Billy Cates and Jim Cates.
Lakers bow to Braves and Panthers: Prior Lake hosted Burnsville on April 26, in the Third Missota conference baseball game and bowed to the Braves 14-3. Top hitter for the Lakers was Bruce Thompson who scored runs for Dave Engel and Mike McAnally. Later that week, Lakeville travelled to Prior Lake to down the Lakers 7-3.

Interested golfers: City Manager Mike McGuire made it public that interest has been expressed by several parties about constructing a first-class golf course in the city. Preliminary plans for a number of sites have been proposed, with land adjacent to county roads 21 and 42, or Highway 13 being the most suitable for an 18-hole course. McGuire said Prior Lake was being considered because of the other recreational and entertainment attractions located nearby.
Students notified of appointments: Three Prior Lake High School seniors received appointments to attend military academies under four-year scholarships. Pamela Klein and Eric Lindstrom received confirmation from Minnesota Sen. Dave Durrenburger’s office that they would be attending the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. Kelly Brown was offered an appointment to attend the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.
Laker baseball team tops in conference play: The Prior Lake High School baseball team remained undefeated after playing seven Missota Conference games. Chris Rooney had one of his best games ever at the plate, hitting his first home run of the season, singling four times and driving in four runs during the game against New Prague, according to coach Darwin Busselman.

Athletic complex on the agenda: The Prior Lake City Council held a work session on proposed capital improvements that could be needed in the next few years. Parks and recreation facilities were discussed, along with the need for an athletics field complex.
Lakers win big over Red Wing: The Lakers’ softball team scored a big 7-0 win over Red Wing. Sophomore April Borchardt got the win with a three-hit shutout.
Senior king & queen crowned at luncheon: Alice and Lyle Anderson were crowned queen and king at the annual Senior Citizens’ Luncheon attended by more than 300 and held at the Prior Lake VFW.
