The Sand Point boat ramp redevelopment project has been completed, following the Prior Lake Association’s successful initiative in obtaining $500,000 in funding from the Minnesota legislature.
Ron Hoffmeyer, PLA president, said the new ramp is a great improvement over the older boat ramp, both in terms of accessibility and sustainability. He adds that boaters will find launching their water craft to be safer, more convenient and efficient than what was seen in recent years.
“The project represents a large milestone for our community and demonstrates the association’s commitment to preserving and enhancing the lake for all,” Hoffmeyer said.
The Sand Point ramp improvements are significant for several reasons, according to Hoffmeyer. It stretches 88 feet, which is 22 feet longer than the old design, and at 28 feet wide, the ramp offers more room for simultaneous use which will reduce wait times. With an elevation difference of nearly 11 feet from top to bottom, the ramp also provides better stability for boats of all sizes.
The boat ramp located off of Dewitte Avenue in Prior Lake was also improved as part of the overall project. Additional slabs were installed and the channel buoyed to direct boats’ prop wash to keep the approach clear from filling as the bay is shallow.
“The Sand Point boat ramp represents a major win for the Prior Lake community and the Prior Lake Association thanks everyone who supported this project,” Hoffmeyer said. “We hope local boaters will enjoy these amenities for generations to come.”
