Fire Chief Issues Warning: Fire Chief Francis Snell stated that a dangerous problem has been occurring with bicycle riders when the fire siren sounds for a report. Riders proceed to the fire hall and make attempts to race with the fire truck. He said bicycle riders are endangering their own lives and that of volunteers by darting into the path of speeding traffic adding to the congestion around the fire hall. Parents are requested to talk to their youngsters about the serious consequences. If the problem continues, drastic action will be taken for safety reasons, Snell said.
With Our Servicemen: Pvt. Allen D. Busse, left for basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri on May 4. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Busse of Prior Lake.
Camp Fire Girls: On Wednesday, May 5, the fourth grade Camp Fire Girls held an election of officers. They included: Arlene Janousek, president; Susan Biever, vice president; Deonne Harper, secretary; Colleen McMullen, treasurer; and Donna Impola, scribe. The girls spent Saturday, May 8, at Camp Tanadoona.

School administrators retire: The retirement of two long-time Prior Lake Schools administrators was announced. Industrial education teacher Court Story was with the district for 24 years, while John Kalton, junior high principal, served for 19 years.
City approves hiring full-time EDA director: The Prior Lake City Council approved the hiring of a full-time Economic Development Director who would also serve as Assistant Administrator. The person hired would begin work on July 1. Salary range was estimated at $24,000 to $28,000.
Brooksville Mall merchants: This issue of the Prior Lake American contained a four-page advertising supplement featuring these local businesses in the Brooksville Mall: Hauser’s Super Valu, Main Street Hair Company, Strings & Things, Spindrifter Goldsmiths by the Lake, Coast to Coast, Teri-Jo’s Floral, Bob’s Sports, Kid’s Korner, Carol’s Furniture, TJ Hooligan’s, Prior Lake Chiropractic Center, Enggren’s Ladies Shoppe, Anchor Inn, Creative Graphics, Noll’s Hallmark, Hobson’s Choice and Video Update.

Frost Point updates debated: City leaders encountered a split vote and 25 Frost Point Circle homeowners who attended a council meeting to protest a reconstruction project for their neighborhood. Homeowners approved of the proposed overlay project, but not sewer and curb updates, indicating they did not want to pay the special assessments for work they believed was not warranted. The project did not move forward following a 2-2 split vote by the council.
Law enforcement scholarships awarded: Four Prior Lake residents received scholarships at the 22nd annual Scott County Law Enforcement banquet. Recipients included: Nicholas Anderson, Brett Hayes, Amanda Kasten and Marcus Hoffer.
Preparing for new city hall: The City of Prior Lake agreed to buy three homes located along Dakota Street to make room for a new city hall that had been previously approved by the council.
