A series of proposed changes would offset more than $200,000 in activities spending for the Prior Lake-Savage Area School district.
Activities director Jeff Marshall presented proposed increases in activities fees and ticket prices.
The new rates for participation fees would be raised to match the top rates in the South Suburban Conference with the exception of hockey, which already leads the Lakers’ athletic conference. Marshall said the district would also eliminate the payment cap for families.
Ticket prices for events would also be increased by an average of $2 per ticket, and online purchasing would no longer distinguish between adult and student tickets.
When asked about those families who may not be able to afford the additional costs, Marshall said that families that qualify for reduced or free lunches would automatically receive assistance to pay for participation fees and passes.
Marshall said that beyond the district’s financial constraints, creating more revenue could only help the district attract high quality coaches. He noted the district’s current stipend for coaches’ salaries is markedly lower than other schools in the South Suburban Conference.
“It is important to note that we are losing good candidates, losing good activity advisors and coaches to other districts,” Marshall said.
The board will vote on this proposal during its June 9 meeting.
