Prior Lake High School ranks among the best high schools in Minnesota, according to a recent story published by Money Inc.
Prior Lake ranks 15th on the 2025 list, as reported by Money Inc.’s story, “The 30 Best High Schools in Minnesota: Top-Ranked Educational Institutions.” The top three on the list are Minnetonka, Wayzata and Edina.
The article states the rankings were determined by educational factors that include “rigorous academics, diverse extracurricular opportunities and supportive learning environments.” Statistics used for evaluating the top high schools included graduation rates, college acceptance statistics and innovative teaching approaches.
Other school attributes cited in the article included: The school maintains a strong academic reputation with comprehensive course offerings including Advanced Placement and College in the Schools programs, while providing excellent facilities including a performing arts center, multiple athletic fields, and updated technology throughout classrooms. Prior Lake High School maintains a student-to-teacher ratio that allows for personalized attention while serving a sizeable student population, and students have the opportunity to participate in numerous extracurricular activities spanning athletics, arts, and academic competitions.
PLHS emphasizes college preparation with dedicated counseling resources and career readiness programs, according to Money, Inc., which added that it consistently achieves above-average graduation rates and college acceptance statistics compared to state averages.
Other high schools in the south metro area that were named as being among the best in the state include: Apple Valley, 7th; Shakopee, 10th; Lakeville North, 13th; and Chaska, 14th.
