The Mudcats played this past Sunday against the Lonsdale Aces in their best-of-three playoff series to see who will be advancing in District 3B. The game was scoreless through nine innings as both teams had outstanding pitching.
The Mudcats broke the tie and got the win in the 10th inning by scratching out a run with two hits and a game-ending error that allowed the walkoff. The Mudcats’ pitchers, Lance Behrens and Ryan Watermann, combined for the win. Top hitter for the ‘Cats was Noah Slates who went 3-for-4.
The teams play the second game in the best-of-three series on Tuesday night in Lonsdale. If a third game is needed, they would play on Thursday, July 31.
The Jays will begin their charge into Class A playoffs with a tough best-of-five game series matchup with the Burnsville Bobcats, the number 2 seed. Game 1 is Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Game 2 is on Friday and game 3 on Sunday, all at the Vet in Prior Lake.
The Laker Legion team was also in post season play recently with a Sub-State game vs. Lakeville South. The Lakers had a strong game, winning 14-1 as many got involved in the offense. Miles Olson was the leader, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs. The seven runs scored in the second inning were helped with hits from Owen Bredeson, Olson, Drew Brinkman and Cam Salmel.
PL also added five more in the third inning to lock up the game early. Olson had a solid 3.2 innings on the mound followed by Noah Wagner closing out the final 1.1 innings. That win led to a matchup with a strong Farmington team. The Laker squad led 2-1 after the first inning. Zach Johnson was the starting pitcher for PL and went 5.1 giving up three earned runs while striking out five, but Farmington’s pitching and defense were too much to overcome and PL was handed a 6-2 loss.
Next up was a must-win game vs. Lakeville North last Saturday. The Lakers had strong scoring in the bottom of the first with Jamin Eischens getting a triple and Miles Olson a double to make it 2-0. The Lakers added four runs in the fourth inning, which was all that was needed for the win, although North got close to coming back. Sam Motzko, who earned the win with six innings, and Dylan Moyers combined for the 6-5 win.
PL Legion then turned around and played again on Saturday, facing the Burnsville Cobras. The Lakers got ahead 3-0 with Miles Olson getting a 2-run single and Drew Brinkman a sacrifice fly, giving PL a 3-0 lead. However, the Cobras struck back and in the sixth inning they took the lead for good. While pitcher Owen Bredeson had a strong outing over 5.1 innings, the Laker bullpen wasn’t able to keep the lead and eventually lost 4-3.
The Legion ended the 2025 season with a 15-10 overall record against strong teams, with many members of the team looking forward to the 2026 baseball season.
