Taylor Smith, a longtime member of the Prior Lake baseball community, has been inducted into the Minnesota American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame. The honor highlights his years of service, leadership, and impact on the sport and the lives of young athletes across the state.
“It was an honor just to be nominated — the fact that I was actually inducted still hasn’t fully sunk in,” Smith said. “I’m beyond grateful for the coaches who gave me a shot, the players who trusted me, and the friends, family, supporters, and the Prior Lake community who’ve been with me through it all.”
Smith wears many hats within the local baseball scene. He currently serves as the Program Coordinator and Assistant Coach for the Prior Lake American Legion Baseball team. He also serves as an Assistant Coach for the Prior Lake Jays and the Prior Lake High School Varsity Lakers, in addition to his role as an Executive Board Member for the Prior Lake Amateur Baseball Association (PLABA). His influence touches all levels of the sport in Prior Lake, helping to develop not only skilled players but strong character in young athletes.
During his induction speech, Smith shared a heartfelt message centered on the value of people and relationships:
“The message I shared in my speech was simple: people and relationships matter — cherish them. The memories, the conversations, the moments — inside and outside the dugout — that stay with you long after the final pitch. That’s the heart of it all, and it’s what I’ll always carry with me in baseball and in life.”
Leaders of the selection process said Smith’s induction into the Hall of Fame is a reflection of his commitment to the game, his players, and his community. His leadership has helped shape players in Prior Lake, leaving a lasting mark on and off the field.
“Thanks to everyone who’s been part of the journey. I couldn’t have done it without you,” he said in closing.
