The Prior Lake-Savage Area School Board will have a new member come January who will serve for one year.
Two newcomers filed as candidates for the special election that will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 4. Affidavits of candidacy were filed by the 5 p.m. deadline on Aug. 12 by district residents Dustin Smith and Jon Conlon. Current board chair Dan White had also filed as a candidate but withdrew from consideration on that day. Smith and Conlon have until 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14, to reconsider running for the seat.
The November special election will be held to fill the vacancy in the term expiring Jan. 4, 2027. Enrique Velazquez was originally elected to serve through that term but resigned in 2023. White was later appointed to temporarily fill that vacancy and will serve through 2025.
The Prior Lake News Compass will provide more information on both candidates in the coming months leading up to the Nov. 4 election.
