Scott County Dispatch received a report of a burglary in progress shortly before 4 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, at the Union Hill Bar, located on 280th Street West in Helena Township.
Deputies were dispatched after a witness observed a person running from a possible broken window before entering a vehicle and fleeing. The witness followed the suspect vehicle while contacting 911.
Deputies arrived at the scene of the business and were able to confirm a crime had occurred. Members of the Scott County Sheriff’s Department coordinated with the LeSueur County Sheriff’s Office and LeSueur Police Department and were able to conduct a traffic stop in LeSueur.
Two individuals were taken into custody without further incident. They were: Richard De Los Santos Jr., age 38, from St. Paul, and Justin Kariakis Valencia, age 37, a resident of Cottage Grove.
Both individuals were booked into the Scott County Jail on charges of third degree burglary and possession of burglary tools. Charging documents were sent to the Scott County Attorney’s Office for review.
In addition to public safety officials from LeSueur, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New Prague Police Department and Belle Plaine Police Department in apprehending the suspects.
