
The Prior Lake Lakers girls volleyball team was ranked in the top 10 during the preseason, which was well-deserved.
Led by captains of Lauren Wiese, Dylan Raveling and Sidney Burley, the Lakers are now off to a good start. The varsity team has begun the year with three wins and one loss.
The opening match ended with a highly rated East Ridge team beating the Lakers three games to one.
Prior Lake came away with wins at Chaska after falling 25-16 in game 1, but then storming back to take the next three games 25-23, 25- 17 and 25-19. Leading the way with 14 kills was Addison Barbo.
Last Thursday, Northfield came to town and the Lakers came away with three straight wins 25-15, 25-16, 25-15 to close out the match. Ryan Cotton led with 22 sets. Senior libero and Kentucky recruit, Sidney Burley surpassed 1,000 digs for her career during this match.
The Lakers beat Minnetonka in three straight games, 25-20, 25-18 and while sealing the final win with a 25-15 score. Barbo led with 10 kills, followed by Olivia Arlt with eight. Katie Westerholm had five serving aces while Burley added another 17 digs to her total.
The team will compete in back-to-back home games on Tuesday, Sept. 10 against Rosemount, and face Robbinsdale Armstrong on Thursday, Sept. 11. Both games will be played at Prior Lake High School.
