Reporting for duty: A group of young Prior Lake men have been assigned to training centers with the U.S. Navy. They are: Steve Landsteiner, assigned to San Diego, while Dane Randolph, Mike Pringle and Tom Blumberg were going to the Great Lakes Center. Others leaving from Prior Lake for training centers included Donald Kraska, Don Santee, Steve Cress, Lyle Kreuger and Francis Cikanek.
Bond issues on ballot: Residents of Prior Lake School District 719 were going to the polls on Nov. 3 to vote on a $497,000 school bond issue. One question pertained to the issuance of general bonds not to exceed $400,000 for the acquisition and betterment of school buildings, while the second question addressed issuing additional bonds in the amount of $97,000 for construction of a kindergarten facility.

Burglars gain access through bathroom: Police investigated a burglary that occurred at the Holiday Gas Station on Oct. 26. Thieves entered the building during the overnight hours when the business was closed by removing portions of the wall in the women’s bathroom. An undisclosed amount of goods, guns and ammunition were taken from the business.
Serving on area council: Phoebe Clemen was running unopposed for a seat on the Scott-Carver Economic Council, a non-profit organization formed to oversee the local emergency food shelf, Eagle Creek Thrift Shop and the distribution of free food commodities.
Happy Birthday, seniors: In the Prior Lake Senior Citizens column, November birthday wishes were extended to Hulda Busse, Roy Collins, Ida Klingberg, John Kop, Julie Leonard and Harriet Laabs. Seniors were reminded that the Human Services bus could take them to downtown Minneapolis the first Wednesday of each month, and to Southdale Shopping Center the third Wednesday of each month. Betty McKinley served as the driver.

More candidates than openings: Prior Lake voters had many candidates listed on the ballot in 2005. Running for the two-year term on the Prior Lake City Council were Jeff Evens, G. Bryan Fleming, Steve Millar and George Victor. Two seats were open for four-year terms and Cheri Dornbush, Warren Erickson, Jim Petersen and Joe Zieska were candidates for that position. Incumbent mayor Jack Haugen ran unopposed. The Prior Lake-Savage Area School Board had three seats open for four-year terms and candidates included: Tom Anderson, Natalie Latzka-Wolstad, Michael Murray and Lee Shimek.
Second middle school planned: Hidden Oaks Middle School Principal Corey Lunn was on special assignment for the year to oversee planning of Hidden Oaks Middle School, the second such school within the Prior Lake-Savage Area School District. Special information sessions were planned in November. Three grades – six through eight – were scheduled to be taught at both Hidden Oaks and Twin Oaks middle schools beginning in fall of 2006.
Vandals hit Lakefront Park: Police and park officials were dealing with a rash of vandalism acts that occurred at Lakefront Park. Flagpoles were broken and American flags stolen. Approximately $3,000 in damage was done to the skate park, while the park’s boat slip was also vandalized.
