Before the spring sports calendar is in full swing, the News Compass is checking in with the coaches of Prior Lake varsity sports to get a preview of the competition ahead. Coach responses are lightly edited for clarity. Below is a look at the boys tennis team, a young team looking to step up in a tough South Suburban conference.
Coaches: Head coach Jason Muhl, assistant varsity coach Wyatt Crowell, head junior varsity coach Andy Lissick, head B team coach Ed Andrist.
Team leadership: Team captains junior Tarun Gopi and senior Lukas Aidas.
Top returning contributors: Aidas, Gopi, Jack Williams, Sam Williams, Reid Breimhorst.
What are your expectations for the team’s performance this season?
Head coach Jason Muhl: “As a coaching staff, our expectations are to build a solid culture that is built on hard work, dedication, effort and accountability. If we can accomplish those expectations, then our season will be a success.”
What will be your team’s biggest challenge this season?
Muhl: “The teams in our conference are tough. Our biggest challenge will be to elevate our level of play and compete hard and try to get a little bit better each day.”
Are there any big competitions on the calendar your team is looking forward to?
Muhl: “The Shakopee match will be fun. Crosstown rivalry matchups are a lot of fun.”
Is there anything else you would like to tell us about your team?
Muhl: “We are a very young team that will play with a lot of fun and excitement. The goal is for the kids to love coming to the courts each day.”
