The Scott County Sheriff’s Office has a new K-9 team.
Deputy Pat McCabe and his partner, K-9 Olin officially graduated on May 22 from the 16-week Saint Paul Police Department Canine Basic Handlers School.
K-9 Olin, a one-year-old Belgian Malinois originally from Poland, was hand-selected for his exceptional drive and potential. He is a dual-purpose police K-9 trained in narcotics detection and patrol work, including criminal apprehension, deputy protection, tracking, search and rescue operations, obedience and evidence recovery. The dog will also serve a role in community engagement through public demonstrations and educational events throughout the county.
“We are incredibly excited to welcome K-9 Olin to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office,” said Sheriff Luke Hennen. “This team represents the next chapter in our continued commitment to public safety and community policing. We’re grateful to the generous donors from Credit River whose private contribution made this addition possible.”
McCabe brings extensive law enforcement experience to his new role as a K-9 handler. He began his career in 2009 as a deputy with the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office. In 2014, he joined the Metro Transit Police Department, where he was later promoted to sergeant. Since 2022, he has served with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, most recently working in the patrol division.
