The Prior Lake Jays were unable to recover from an early deficit May 31, falling 8-0 to the Shakopee Indians in a Section 2A matchup.
Shakopee wasted little time taking control, breaking through in the top of the first inning. Steve Boldt delivered an RBI single to open the scoring before Ryder Peace launched a three-run home run off the scoreboard in right-center field, giving the Indians a quick 4-0 advantage.
That early cushion proved more than enough for Shakopee’s pitching staff. Vinny Schleper earned the victory after turning in six scoreless innings. The right-hander scattered three hits, struck out seven and walked two while keeping the Jays off the scoreboard throughout his outing.
Prior Lake starter Brady Baur was charged with the loss. Baur worked one inning, allowing four runs on two hits while striking out two and walking two. Charles Running provided a strong relief effort, pitching four innings and surrendering two runs on four hits. Running struck out five and walked one.
The Jays managed four hits on the evening, with Isaac Heilman, Jackson Golberg, William Sandefur and Nate Bodine each recording a hit. Peace supplied the biggest offensive blow for Shakopee, driving in four runs from the middle of the lineup. The outfielder finished 1-for-4 with the first-inning home run.
Ryan Boldt paced the Indians with two hits in a 2-for-5 performance, while Kyle Ryan drew two walks as part of a patient offensive approach that produced seven free passes.
The Jays returned to action on June 2 when they traveled to the Victoria Vics in another section matchup at Poppitz Field.
