Scott County Sheriff’s Office 911 Dispatch received a report on Sept. 8 regarding a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Texas Avenue and 230th Street East in New Market Township.
Initial investigation indicates that a 2025 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by a 58-year old man from Lonsdale, was traveling northbound on Texas Avenue when he struck a 44-year-old man from Minneapolis who was performing survey work along the roadway.
The driver of the Equinox was wearing a seat belt and was uninjured. It did not appear that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, according to the sheriff’s department.
Several passers-by stopped at the scene and rendered life-saving aid until emergency responders arrived. Unfortunately, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
“This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the victim’s family and loved ones,” said Sheriff Luke Hennen. “Whether it’s a pedestrian, a bicyclist or someone working along the roadway, drivers must always remain alert and attentive to help prevent tragedies like this.”
The Scott County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Elko New Market Police Department, Elko New Market Fire Department, Northfield Ambulance, and Minnesota State Patrol. The incident is being investigated by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office and the State Patrol.
Positive identification of the deceased will be made by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office.
