Four young men from Scott County were honored by the Scott County Law Enforcement Scholarship Committee on May 12, and each was awarded a $2,000 scholarship from the organization.
Recipients included: Maddox Csiki, Prior Lake; Trace Smith, Savage; Jared Milinkovich, Lonsdale; and Matthew Weierke, Shakopee.
Of the winners, one is a marine, while the other three already have a conditional offer as a licensed peace officer, two of them with a Scott County law enforcement agency.
The committee, now in its 43rd year, was formed in 1983 by private citizens from each community in the county to memorialize deceased local law enforcement officers who died while on active duty by establishing a scholarship fund to promote law enforcement careers. During its existence, it has reportedly disbursed over $200,000 in scholarships to area residents.
The organization’s annual banquet was held at the Minnesota Horse & Hunt Club. Attorney Chris Madel was the guest speaker.
