The Prior Lake Boys Swim and Dive team continued their impressive run in the South Suburban Conference, recently topping Burnsville and Eastview to improve to 5-0 in conference dual meets on the season.
In both meets, the Lakers swept every individual event and relay race.
Against Eastview on Jan. 3, Matt Ondracek touched first in the 200-yard freestyle, while Owen Beaudette claimed victory in the 200 individual medley. Braxton Helmers proved his speed and endurance with wins in both the 50 and 500 freestyle events. Maddox Mork continued his strong diving campaign with a first-place finish and Ethan Kosin dominated the 100 butterfly.

Jamey Solt added to the Lakers’ success with victories in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. The team’s relay squads were equally impressive, capturing first in the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay, and 400 freestyle relay.
At Burnsville on Jan. 7, Helmers led the way with victories in the 200 and 500 freestyle. Connor Kelsey dominated the 200 individual medley, while Kosin showcased his versatility with wins in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Mork continued his strong diving campaign with another first-place finish. Ondracek added to the Lakers’ success with victories in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke.
Kosin’s victory in the 100 backstroke was particularly noteworthy, as he broke the previous Burnsville pool record with a time of 51.10. The previous record had stood since 2002.
Maroon and Gold meet
The Lakers are not just succeeding within the conference. The team faced a formidable challenge on Jan. 4 as they joined some of Minnesota’s top programs and Creighton Prep from Omaha, Neb., at the prestigious Maroon and Gold Meet hosted at the University of Minnesota. While facing stiff competition, the Lakers delivered a strong performance, ultimately finishing in 5th place behind Minnetonka, Creighton Prep, Edina and Wayzata.
Several Lakers stood out with impressive individual results. Kosin led the charge with a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle and a subsequent third-place victory in the 100 freestyle.
Solt and Ondracek displayed their versatility with a strong showing in the 200 individual medley, securing third and fourth place finishes, respectively. Mork had a second-place finish in the diving competition.
The Lakers also demonstrated their strength in relay events. The 200-yard freestyle relay team, comprised of Kosin, Griffin Leining, Solt and Owen Beaudette, touched the wall in third place.
