Prior Lake wrestling is making its first trip to the state tournament in a decade.
The Lakers bested 25-time state champions Apple Valley in the section 2AAA championship dual Friday, Feb. 14 at Eastview High School, 36-30.
Prior Lake got pins from Rocco Mikolyzk (107 pounds), Jack Jerstad (121), Liam Collins (127), Isaiah Olabode (215) and Brock Zurn (285). Charlie Nelson (172) and John Graham (152) also earned victories by decision.
The No. 2 seed in the section tournament, Prior Lake also bested Rosemount 59-14 in the quarterfinals and New Prague 40-22 in the semifinals.
The team will wrestle in the state team tournament on Feb. 27. Individual sections competition will be on Feb. 22 at Farmington High School.
