Seven members of the Prior Lake Fire Department, along with several deputies from the Scott County Sheriff’s Office and a private citizen, were recognized by the Scott County Board on May 6 for their swift actions that saved two people in a life-threatening emergency on Dec. 30.
Prior Lake firefighters Nick Haugen, Jim Hosinski, Thomas Joachim, Sam Sampey and Mike Pientka, along with Assistant Chief Jim Ruzicka and Captain Daryl Jelle, worked with other law enforcement officials to sustain life-saving efforts until an EMS transport was secured. Scott County deputies Jeffrey Strack and Daniel Aszmann had administered Narcan and performed rescue breathing. Private citizen Robert Bednarik had discovered two individuals unresponsive in a vehicle, took immediate action to protect their airways and called for emergency assistance.
All were honored as nominees for the Morris S. Miller Health Hero Award.
