New fire-fighting equipment: The Prior Lake Volunteer Fire Department purchased new raincoats, boots and helmets to replace worn out items that were in use for approximately 10 years.
Boo! Halloween festivities planned: Members of the Prior Lake Lions Club were busy planning Halloween events for local children. The elementary and preschool party was scheduled to be held at the elementary school and include cartoons and treats for all in attendance. Committee members were Clen Clair, Harold Noyes and Bill Thomas. The junior and senior high dance party was scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Village Hall. Committee members for that event were Earl Haferman, Del Cates and Harry Tupy.

City is a ‘Star’: The Prior Lake Economic Development Committee gave a unanimous “yes” to the city’s participation in the state “Star City” program. The state program was designed to help cities organize and market themselves for redevelopment and new development projects. Assistant City Manager Dave Unmacht was requested to lead the initiative.
Lakeshore property advertised: A large multi-level home facing the main channel of Prior Lake, with a sand beach and gradual slope down to the lake, was listed in the Coldwell Banker real estate ad for $199,000.
Candidates featured in voters’ guide: The voters’ guide published in the Prior Lake American listed Gary Johnson and Lee Andren running for mayor. Keith Thorkelson, Ted Schweich, John Fitzgerald, Gene White and Michael Felix were city council candidates.
New chamber president selected: Jack Ludescher, general manager of KCHK Radio in New Prague, was selected to succeed John Kalton as president of the Prior Lake Chamber of Commerce.

Full-day kindergarten offered: The Prior Lake-Savage Area School Board decided to offer parents the option to sign up their kindergartener for full-day attendance at a cost of $2,673 per year. “Extended Day K” was offered at every elementary school to make it an easier transition when the child entered first grade. The half-day option was still available but would be housed at Edgewood School.
Celebrating 40 years: The Franciscan Retreat Center celebrated its 40th year of operation in Prior Lake.
PL getting new PD: A groundbreaking for the new Prior Lake Police Department was held on the site where the former city hall once stood. The $13 million project was expected to be completed in early 2007.
