Prior Lake girls hockey put together a strong week, earning victories over Chaska/Chanhassen and Shakopee before falling to one of the top-ranked Class A teams in Blake.
The Lakers now stand at 6–3 as they head into a challenging stretch of section and conference matchups.
Lakers win over Chaska/Chanhassen with two third-period goals
Prior Lake picked up a 5–3 road win Dec. 4 over Chaska/Chanhassen, responding each time the Stormhawks scored first.
Chaska/Chanhassen scored late in the opening period, but the Lakers tied it fewer than two minutes later when junior forward Abby Anthony scored on the power play off a setup from freshman forward Avery Olson and junior forward Ella Voll.
The Stormhawks struck first again early in the second, but Prior Lake answered with two straight goals. Freshman defender Coral Martin tied the game 2–2 off assists from junior defender Kallie Disrud and Olson. Olson later scored the go-ahead goal off feeds from Addi junior forward Heinicke and sophomore forward Maddie DuChene, giving the Lakers a 3–2 lead after two.
CC tied the game early in the third, but the Lakers responded again. Sophomore forward Lily Loechler scored the game-winner on a play created by senior forward Ava Anderson and senior forward Ciera Olinger, and sophomore defender Liv Heinicke added an unassisted empty-net goal to secure the win.
Prior Lake outshot the Stormhawks 41–31, and senior goalie SophieCappiello stopped 28 of 31 shots.
Prior Lake dominates Shakopee 6-0
Prior Lake turned in a dominant performance Dec. 6, defeating Shakopee 6–0 in conference play and outshooting the Sabers 47–15.
Voll opened the scoring with two first-period goals — the first assisted by Anthony and sophomore forward Raya Mathiason, and the second again set up by Anthony. Mathiason added to the lead early in the second period, scoring off a pass from Heinicke.
The Lakers extended the margin with three more second-period goals. Olson scored off a setup from Heinicke and DuChene, Anthony added a goal assisted by Mathiason and Voll, and Disrud capped the surge with a goal assisted by Addi Heinicke and Voll.
Voll finished with two goals and two assists, while Mathiason and Anthony each posted one goal and two assists.
Cappiello earned the shutout with 15 saves, her second win of the week.
Blake shuts out Lakers
The Lakers dropped a 3–0 decision to Blake, one of the top-ranked Class A teams in Minnesota, Dec. 9.
The Lakers generated 15 shots but couldn’t find the back of the net, while Blake finished with 33 shots on goal. Cappiello turned aside 30 of 33 shots and kept the game within reach throughout.
