The Prior Lake girls hockey team dropped both games last week against a pair of strong opponents but will look ahead to a busy and celebratory weekend at Dakotah! Ice Center with Girls Hockey Day coming up on Dec. 20.
Eden Prairie pulls away late against the Lakers
The Prior Lake girls hockey team opened a two-game week on Dec. 11, falling 5–0 to Eden Prairie.
Prior Lake kept Eden Prairie off the board in the opening period before the Eagles scored twice in the second to take a 2–0 lead into the final frame.
The Eagles added three more goals in the third period to pull away for the win. Despite the final score, shots were relatively even, with Eden Prairie holding a 28–21 advantage.
Senior goaltender Sophie Cappiello was steady in net for Prior Lake, stopping 23 of 28 shots.
Lakers push top-ranked Farmington to overtime
Prior Lake returned home later in the week to face Farmington, which entered the matchup 7–2–1, ranked No. 11 in the state by Let’s Play Hockey, and sitting atop the conference standings.
Farmington’s twin-sister duo of Jenna and Amelia Goblirsch each scored in the opening period to give the Tigers an early lead. Prior Lake answered before the first intermission when junior forward Abby Anthony scored, assisted by sophomore forward Raya Mathiason, cutting the deficit to 2–1.
Defense dominated the second period, with neither team finding the net.
Farmington struck first in the third period, but the Lakers responded with two goals in a span of 18 seconds to tie the game.
Junior forward Ella Voll scored off assists from junior defender Kallie Disrud and Anthony, followed moments later by junior forward Addi Heinicke, who finished a setup from sophomore forward Maddie DuChene and freshman forward Avery Olson.
Farmington answered with another goal, but Prior Lake pushed back once more late in regulation. Olson scored in the closing moments, assisted by Voll and Anthony, sending the game to overtime tied 4–4.
Prior Lake held a 3–2 shot advantage in overtime, but Farmington capitalized on its opportunity to secure a 5–4 overtime victory.
The Goblirsch sisters combined for three goals and two assists for Farmington, while Anthony led the Lakers with one goal and two assists. Cappiello again handled the duties in net, stopping 18 of 23 shots.

Prior Lake’s road game at Rosemount scheduled for Dec. 16 was postponed following the closure of District 196 high schools due to a security threat.
The Lakers now carry a 6–5 record into a busy stretch at home. Prior Lake will host Apple Valley on Dec. 20, as part of Lakers Girls Hockey Day at Dakotah! Ice Center.
The day will feature events beginning with an alumni game at 9:25 a.m., followed by a JV game at 11 a.m. and youth girls games taking place throughout the day.
Varsity puck drop is set for 1 p.m., with free admission for girls wearing a Prior Lake hockey jersey. Additional activities during the varsity game include Chuck-a-Puck, a silent auction, and other fun games and festivities.
Prior Lake will then close out play before the holiday break with a home matchup against Minnetonka on Dec. 23, at 2:00 p.m. Minnetonka enters the week ranked No. 4 in Class AA by Let’s Play Hockey with a 7–0–2 record.
