The Prior Lake varsity cheer team had a great day Dec. 13 at the University of Minnesota Cheer Championship competition at the Maturi Pavilion on campus.
Prior Lake took first place in both the Medium Traditional and Medium Game Day routines. At the conclusion of the competition, the team returned home with Grand Champions honors for both routines, earning the highest scores across all divisions in the competition, including small, medium and large teams, and tumbling and non-tumbling teams.
Prior Lake junior varsity also performed well, placing second in Junior Varsity Game Day and third in Junior Varsity Traditional events.
The Laker Cheer teams will compete again at the Sweetheart Classic on Jan. 17 at Edina High School and are preparing to compete February in the National High School Cheer Championships in Orlando, according to Maddie Bills, head coach and program director. The teams have routinely placed in the top five, including several national championships.
