Prior Lake High School’s Unified Basketball team is headed to the state tournament being held on Feb. 12 at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
In the first year of Unified Basketball being offered at PLHS, the team went undefeated in B Division pool play at the regional tournament held at Shakopee High School last week. The team took first place after four games, which earned them a spot at state.
Unified Basketball brings together students with and without disabilities, showcasing teamwork, inclusion and sportsmanship on and off the court. PLHS also competed in the C Division, which focused on learning, growth and participation. All are identified as an important part of the Unified experience.
B division team members include: Luqman Abdilahi, Binh Pham, Ayub Hussein, Cece Brudevold, Gwen Sirotiak, Isaiah Mendez, Alia Priebe, Ben Buettner, Logan Rolle and Landon Mork. Coaches are: Landon Peroutka, Clyde Smith, Woser Jenpa, Cam Stout and Cade Swanson.
C division team members are: Athulya Rock, Andrew Macinnis, Abdullahi Said, Marwo Abdi, Mason Velazquez, Kate Bloomer, Jackson Baker, Julia Carlson and Anna Gillespie. Lucy Satterlund and Paisley Larson coach the team.
Managers of PLHS Unified Basketball are Kennedy Seurer, Madeline Schaper, Clare Draine, Elisia Kucinski and Priya Husom.
