Two buildings within the Prior Lake-Savage School District will be renamed at the start of the 2026-27 school year, along with a program for young adults.
The changes will be needed when one elementary ceases to be used as a neighborhood school, the current District Services Center building is sold, and the Transitions program, designed for learners ages 18 to 22, is updated to reflect current goals.
Naming recommendations were presented to the Prior Lake-Savage Area School Board for approval during the March 9 meeting. Recommendations included the following:
La ola del lago at WestWood: With this updated name, the district’s Spanish-immersion school will retain its identity and reflect its new location. This allows the school to maintain its strong name recognition and community connection.
Educational Service Center at Grainwood: The Community Education Advisory Council (CEAC) worked with the Community Education and District Service Center staff to create this name recommendation. It reflects the wide range of services provided at the site, including Laker LAUNCH, while also preserving Grainwood’s name on the building and historical significance within the community.
Laker LAUNCH (Lifelong Learning, Achieving Dreams, Unveiling Potential, Cultivating Independence, Heading for a Bright Future): The Special Education Advisory Council (SEAC), along with future students, considered several names for the district’s transition program that is offered to students ages 18 to 22. Both groups appreciated that the name reflects the program’s Laker identity and the idea of its students “launching” into adult life.
The school board unanimously approved the three name recommendations.
