The Prior Lake Lions Club has announced local winners of its Peace Poster contest.
For nearly four decades, the Lions International has sponsored the contest and invited local clubs to encourage students to share what peace means to them through art. The contest is open to children ages 11-13 and provides them the opportunity to be recognized at local and international levels, and awarded a grand prize of US$5,000.
This year’s theme was “Together As One.” Students attending Twin Oaks Middle School, Hidden Oaks Middle School, Aspen Academy and St. Michael Catholic School were invited to participate. The top three winners from each received a monetary award. The first-place winner moved forward to higher levels of competition.
Winners from each school included:
Twin Oaks Middle School: Vincent McDaniel, first place; Saharsha Sanish Thyhara, second place; and Samantha Arnold, third place. Art teacher Mary Jo Pauly and social studies teacher John Wabbe advised students.
Hidden Oaks Middle School: Eileen Luo, first place; Gillian Sward, second place; and Kadence Brazier, third place. Art teacher Sara Anderson coordinated the entries submitted by students. Luo placed second at the district level and will be invited to the Lions’ midwinter convention being held in February to receive her award.

St. Michael Catholic School: Madden Chambers, first place; Wilson Cuka, second place; and Joslynn Drake, third place. Art teacher Rachel Olmanson assisted students with the project.
Aspen Academy: Caitlin Finnerty, first place; Cam Lindsay, second place; and Marian Mation, third place. Art teacher Beth Gale served as a mentor to the students.
