Prior Lake earned a conference win over Lakeville South on Jan. 13 at home, scoring six goals with five coming on the power play.
Prior Lake opened the scoring just over one minute into the game when freshman forward Avery Olson scored, assisted by senior forward Ava Anderson and junior forward Addi Heinicke. Lakeville South tied the game a few minutes later, but Prior Lake responded with two more goals before the end of the first period.
Junior forward Abby Anthony scored on the power play from junior forward Ella Voll and sophomore forward Maddie DuChene. Anderson followed with another power-play goal, assisted by DuChene and Anthony, giving Prior Lake a 3-1 lead after one period.
The Lakers added two more power-play goals in the second period. Sophomore defender Liv Heinicke scored from Addi Heinicke and sophomore forward Raya Mathiason, and Anderson scored again, assisted by Voll.
Prior Lake closed the scoring late in the third period with another power-play goal by Anthony, assisted by Olson and DuChene. Anderson, DuChene, and Anthony each recorded three points.
Senior goalie Sophie Cappiello stopped 26 of 27 shots.
Tough home loss against Eagan
Prior Lake dropped a 4-2 decision to conference opponent Eagan on Jan. 15 during the team-hosted “Shut Out the Stigma” fundraiser to promote mental health awareness. Proceeds from the event benefited the Duck Cup Memorial, a nonprofit organization dedicated to mental health awareness and suicide prevention through education and inspirational speakers.
Eagan scored the only goal of the first period to take the early lead. However, Mathiason tied the game in the second period with an unassisted goal.
Eagan scored the first two goals of the third period before Prior Lake answered with a goal by Anthony, assisted by Heinicke. With the Prior Lake goalie pulled late, Eagan added an empty-net goal to secure the 4-2 win.
Cappiello made 21 saves.
Convincing road shutout over Shakopee
The Lakers responded to the overtime letdown with a 10-0 road win over conference opponent Shakopee on Jan. 20.
Prior Lake scored two goals in the first period, seven in the second and one in the third. Shakopee was held to eight shots on goal, all stopped by freshman goalie Chloe Byrne.
Olson and Anderson led the Lakers in points with one goal and three assists each.
Liv Heinicke led the goal scoring with a hat trick. Her sister, Addi, added one goal and two assists.
Defenseman Eloise Maunu, an eighth-grader, scored twice, recording the first two varsity goals of her career.

Prior Lake has four regular-season games remaining, including three road games this week against ranked opponents.
The Lakers face section opponent Holy Family, the Let’s Play Hockey No. 2-ranked team in Class AA, on Jan. 22. Holy Family enters the game with a 19-2 record.
Prior Lake continues conference play at No. 18-ranked Apple Valley on Jan. 24, followed by a matchup against conference leader No. 10-ranked Farmington, which is 12-0-1 in conference play, on Jan. 27.
